(CercleFinance.com) – Stellantis announced on Thursday the signing of an agreement with the American Controlled Thermal Resources in order to source lithium with low carbon emissions.
This binding agreement sees CTR supply lithium hydroxide for use in the batteries of the electrified vehicles that the automaker produces in North America.
CTR’s ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ project, located in California, will use geothermal brine to produce lithium hydroxide from renewable energy and steam in an integrated closed-loop process.
This process will make it possible to avoid having to resort to brine ponds, surface mines or fossil fuels.
CTR will supply Stellantis with up to 25,000 tons of lithium hydroxide per year during the 10-year agreement.
This sustainable lithium should allow Stellantis to carry out its offensive strategy in the electric market in the United States, where the group intends to increase the proportion of its private vehicles and electrified pick-ups to 50% in North America.
