One hundred and five people lost their lives (20 more compared to the previous period) and 641 others were injured, in the province of Bengo, in 2023, as a result of 331 road accidents recorded by the National Police in the region.
Compared to the previous year, there was a reduction of 16 cases in the number of accidents, but, even so, an increase in the number of deaths (20) and injuries (51).
The Interior delegate in Bengo and provincial commander of the National Police, commissioner Delfim Kalulu Inácio, stated, this Saturday, that these figures should lead citizens to reflect on the non-observance of the rules of the road code that have caused the loss of human lives and the mutilation of so many others who might make their contribution to the development of the province.
The official commissioner made these statements when taking stock of the province’s operational activity for the year ending, according to Angop.
The Civil Protection and Fire Service recorded 357 incidents (+159) compared to the previous year, with emphasis on 123 fires (+57) and 34 drownings (+1), with the main incidence being the Dande River.
As a result of the rains that hit the province, 1,470 homes were affected (+933), 670 of which were flooded (+102) and 800 were damaged (+123), causing one death and seven injuries.
The municipality of Dande was the most affected with approximately 716 families affected (+241).
In 2023, the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) controlled 1,218 foreign citizens of different nationalities (+92) compared to the previous year.
The SME also registered 2,925 passport applications, an increase of 1,790 compared to the previous year.
