An audio recording accidentally made by the iPad of a student helped the management of a school in the United Kingdom to discover cases of misconduct by a team of staff – which, consequently, resulted in the dismissal of those responsible.
According to Essex Daily Gazette, the case took place in a school for students with special needs. The pivotal student of the story entered the establishment with the recording option activated on the Apple tablet and did not deactivate it until the end of the day.
The recording captured most of the events surrounding the student and was found by the mother of the child in question at the end of last year. Concerned regarding the contents of the file, the woman handed it over to the school board.
Classifying the employees’ behavior as worrying, the director began an investigation process with HR and, as it was verified that there was “serious conduct” on the part of the team, all of them were dismissed.
Details of the conduct of these professionals were not released due to the disciplinary investigation — particularly to protect the confidentiality of the children, their families and others involved.
The director also claimed to trust that the event was an isolated incident and claimed to have spoken with the entire team regarding what kind of conduct the school expects from its professionals.
