Accident with an ambulance claimed two lives in Salzburg

A tragic traffic accident happened this Saturday in Taxenbach, in the area of Trattenbach Tunnels: A car bumped into the Pinzgauer Straße collided head-on with an emergency vehicle around 5:30 p.m. The ambulance was on its way to the Schwarzach hospital with two Red Cross employees and a patient.

patient died

In the collision, the patient was injured so badly that – despite the intensive use of four emergency doctors and rescue workers – died. Any help came too late for the driver of the car who crashed into the ambulance.

The driver of the Red Cross vehicle was trapped in the accident and had to be rescued by the fire brigade. He was seriously injured and flown to the Salzburg University Hospital by the C6 emergency doctor helicopter. The passenger of the Red Cross vehicle was transported to the hospital in Zell am See with minor injuries.

crisis intervention

The relatives of the accident victims are being cared for by several Red Cross crisis intervention teams. “Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims of the accident. Despite the rapid deployment of four emergency doctors and several paramedics at the scene of the accident, we were no longer able to save two lives,” said district rescue commander Anton Voithofer.

The road had to be closed in both directions on Saturday evening, and a local detour was set up.
