At least seven people were killed and several injured in a serious traffic accident on Autobahn 94 in Bavaria, including a six-year-old child. The accident involving a suspected towing vehicle occurred on Friday morning near the Waldkraiburg/Ampfing junction, the police said. The van with a Vienna license plate carrying over 20 people was driven by a stateless man from Austria.

The police announced this on Friday. There were 23 passengers in the car, which was designed for nine. They are Syrians and Turks, but the driver is a stateless man from Austria. A spokesman for the Rosenheim police station also confirmed media reports to the APA that the vehicle had a Vienna license plate. It left the road and overturned.

The federal police had previously noticed the car on the A94 and wanted to stop it. The driver then accelerated sharply and evaded control. According to police, he was probably not among the dead. According to the police, the overcrowding of the car may also have contributed to the high number of deaths and injuries. Many of the occupants might therefore not have been wearing seatbelts at all.
