“mirtesen.ru” positions itself as a social network whose users can create an information flow, and “5vlast.com” advertises itself as the “Voronezh and not only news” channel.
The inspection of both sites was carried out by NEPLP following receiving “a letter from another competent government administrative authority.” The letters stated that the sites are being used to support Russia’s aggressive propaganda, including the dissemination of distorted and false information regarding Russia’s war once morest Ukraine and war crimes committed by Russia.
After checking the sites, NEPLP found that they disseminate distorted and false information regarding world events, including the war in Ukraine, justifying Russia’s actions. The websites also disseminate hateful information and information with the aim of discrediting the Latvian state and NATO. Such information in the information space of Latvia can create a false impression regarding events in the world, negatively affect the coexistence of various social groups in Latvia and pose a threat to the national security of Latvia, the council notes.
The Council concluded that websites are used, for example, to disseminate propaganda, war propaganda, support for the war in Ukraine and a narrative directed once morest the Ukrainian state and the Ukrainian people, as well as distorted and false information regarding political, economic and social processes taking place in Latvia.
NEPLP has decided to restrict access in Latvia to both websites and their duplicate mirror pages, informing merchants providing Internet access services regarding this and instructing them to immediately prohibit access to the pages by directing their users to the information message “nelegalssaturs. lv”.
