The right of access to medicinal cannabis and tourists who will be in Greece, is expected to issue a new ministerial decision Adonis Georgiadis.
Those tourists who visit our country and are already receiving medical cannabis treatment will be able to obtain it from Greece. Access will be granted with a new ministerial decision expected in the near future, which will aim to make it easier for foreign visitors to stay, so that when they receive medical cannabis as a palliative treatment, they can continue their treatment here as well, while doing the their holidays.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, during the Cannabis Europa 2024 conference held in London.
He emphasized that our country is one of the first countries in Europe to redefine the legislative framework regarding medicinal cannabis in 2017, making special mention of the landmark legislation.
He characteristically stated that: “In 2019 as the Minister of Development and Investments, I had under my supervision all approvals for the licensing of the medicinal cannabis industry and that was the moment when we passed a new law, more flexible and more business-friendly than the previous one , overcoming many bureaucratic obstacles”, while he added that: “We were really determined to put Greece on this path for two reasons. The first reason was the quality of life of the country’s patients as we are convinced that medicinal cannabis works in patients with certain diseases, while the second was the building in Greece of a new industry that would add new jobs and export activity, so as to create added value to our economy”.
For his part, Mr. Nikos Beis, CEO & Vice President of the Board of Directors of Tikun Olam Europe commented that:
