The transition to electromobility is gaining momentum. Last year, e-mobiles worldwide reached a new record with a share of 16 percent of registrations, and the international strategy consultancy Roland Berger expects this to increase to 50 percent by 2030. With a share of 37 percent, Germany is one of the leading electric car nations, but needs to significantly optimize the expansion of the charging infrastructure, according to the authors of the study. 22 percent of charging stations worldwide are currently suitable for fast charging; in Germany it is just 16 percent.
According to the study, 90 percent of electric drivers in Germany rely on public charging stations, so the experts at Roland Berger believe that expanding the charging system is an indispensable prerequisite for further growth in e-mobility. “In Germany, the availability of public charging infrastructure is not keeping pace with the growing number of electric cars. The country could play a pioneering role in the development of a new energy ecosystem around vehicle charging. However, the prerequisite is a clear commitment from politics and industry to electromobility,” says Lennart Lohrisch, partner at Roland Berger. (aum/ww)
