Academy of Medicine calls for increased vaccination against diphtheria

Health.- The president of the National Academy of Medicine, Enrique López Loyo, asks the corresponding entities to increase vaccination once morest diphtheria nationwide.

“Diphtheria is a disease with an infectious focus, an initial affectation in the upper respiratory tract that is transmitted directly by direct contact,” he explained.

It is caused by strains of bacteria called Corynebacterium diphtheriae, which means that the person can reach serious states with the disease.

He reported that Venezuela has a special offer that will allow it to stock up on all the vaccines required by the WHO.

“For this year 2023 there is an offer from UNICEF and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to provide all the vaccines in the country,” he said.

López added that by 2024 they are talking regarding a donation by the Gabi system that has the same purpose of supplying the nation in the face of “the delay in coverage schemes.”

He recalled the importance of vaccination in the population to prevent pathologies from taking hold and making it much more difficult to control.
