Academy: Chido Obi Martin leaves Arsenal

Well, this Danish youngster shows a side that is not so pretty. Is he driven by hungry agents who want big fat bonuses or has he spoken to like-minded players who have felt their careers have been boosted outside of Arsenal if they leave early? Folarin Balogun can be seen as a good example. He was not given much of a chance at Arsenal despite scoring goals for the junior teams. He went to Stade de Reims, scored goals and is now in Monaco. Certainly his career may have stalled somewhat, but Ligue 1 and Monaco is a nice career. Chuba Akpom was another player who scored many goals as a junior and who during Wenger’s time got to feel the bench. He left and is now 28 years old, but can call himself Greek champion and cup winner. If you go even further back, you will find Benik Afobe, who was seen as a brilliant talent, but Wenger let him go. He has had a successful career with games abroad and plenty of games in the Championship. One that has developed in recent times is Stepy Mavididi, who played in both Juventus and Montpellier and was also released early. Serge Gnabry we should hardly mention and who doesn’t remember Yunus Musah, who went to Spain as a 16-year-old and is now a midfield dynamo in AC Milan. Bennacer is another.
The other day did Cozier-Duberry two bowls for Brighton and it might turn sour for the Gunners when they face the Seagulls in the series if this junior makes strong progress.
Chido Obi Martin turns 17 this year and the Gunners wanted to sign a professional contract with him, but he seems to have declined and is looking for other latitudes. What could it be? It is said that ManU are interested in him, Borussia Dortmund and possibly someone else. Now the Dane poured in goals in U18 23/24, but if you look at the matches, the guy is heavier, faster and longer than most of his opponents. Certainly a brilliant talent and one wonders what will happen next. Will it be a rude awakening for him or the Gunners.
We’ll see,
