TEACHER at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, Topo Santoso, said that law enforcement in Indonesia must be carried out with full supervision. One way is through critical examination from legal experts.
According to him, academic-based critical assessment is deemed necessary, so that law enforcement remains within the corridor.
“Mistakes in the judge’s decision are always possible, and this critical examination is important as a lesson for law enforcers,” said Topo Santoso, in a statement quoted on Wednesday (16/10).

This was revealed in a discussion held by the Center for Leadership and Law Development Studies (CLDS) Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Indonesia. The agenda reviews the handling of various cases, one of which is the case involving the former Regent of Tanah Bumbu Mardani Maming.
Anti-corruption activist Bambang Harymurti expressed the same thing. He encouraged all anti-corruption academics to carry out maximum critical examination in case decisions.
“(Examination) must be known and heard by the Supreme Court which has the authority to decide cases during judicial review, so that it has legal impact,” he said.

Bambang asked all related parties to dare to speak up and express their position. Namely, by sending a message to the MA.
“Legal experts and decision examiners should have the courage to compile and submit their opinions as experts or as amicus curiae (friend of the court) to the Supreme Court,” he continued.
Mardani Maming was sentenced to prison and a fine for allegedly receiving Rp. 118 billion in gratification from the late Henry Soetio, former Director of PT Prolindo Cipta Nusantara. (P-5)
