Academia Boyacá, directed by sensei Richard Chacín, was recently crowned champion in the 2024 Interclub Tournament of Traditional Karate Do that took place in Barcelona, capital of the state of Anzoátegui.
The martial arts competition was held at the Las Casitas vertical gym, where the Boyacá karatekas accumulated 90 points in the kata and kumite events, to place at the top of the podium.
The Barcelona team was followed by Muga Mushin, another Anzoátegui dojo, which totaled 52 points. The third position was occupied by the Bolívar team with 32 points.
More participating teams
The Anzoátegui and Miranda teams also participated in the card, scoring 18 goals and sharing fourth place.
Chacín indicated that the students Samuel Mariño (5 years old) was consecrated in both kata and kumite, while Deborah Zacarías (9 years old) obtained a gold medal in an imaginary contest.
Preisler Sánchez (11 years old) also stood out, having won the kata and kumite titles at an event that served to give athletes competitive experience for future national championships.
Scholarship students
Chacín reported that her students Bárbara González (9 years old), winner of bronze medals in kata and kumite, and Kimberly Cherema (9 years old), who won silver medals in the aforementioned modes, stood out by being included in the honor roll of their version, something quite meritorious because both are scholarship recipients.
“Our Boyacá Academy has a support program for athletes in the community, including González and Cherema, who are exempt from paying for various events. We are very proud of their performance, as well as the rest of our competitors,” said the coach who invites the population to practice karate because it allows them to achieve a perfect balance between body and mind.
