After an eight-year hiatus, the legendary rock band AC/DC returns with live concerts in Europe with its titular vocalist Brian Johnson.

The tour, announced today on the band’s official website, will showcase the Australian musicians’ latest studio album, POWER UP (2020).

The surprise in the line-up for the tour is the bassist Chris Chaneyformer member of the alternative rock band Jane’s Addiction (Jane’s Addiction), who will replace the retired Cliff Williams. The lead role is traditionally played by the guitarist Angus Young, one of the co-founders of AC/DC.

Brian Johnson returns to the stage following almost ending his music career due to severe hearing problems. His illness caused a strain in the band in 2016, but in 2020 the members reunited. The band’s other co-founder, Malcolm Young, who died in 2017 following a long battle with dementia, was succeeded on rhythm guitar by his nephew Stevie Young. Long-time starter Phil Rudd will be replaced by Mat Laug.

AC/DC is one of the longest-running bands in the history of modern music. It was founded in Sydney in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. Her name comes from the AC/DC lettering she saw on her sister’s sewing machine – a sign that the machine might run on both direct and alternating current. The musicians released their first album – High Voltage in 1976, but gained international fame with their fourth studio record – Let There Be Rock from 1977. The album that made them world superstars was Back in Black (1980). In 2003, the band was inducted into the Rock Music Hall of Fame. The group has sold a total of more than 200 million records in their career.

This European tour will be part of the 50th anniversary of the band, who performed their first concert on December 31, 1973 at the Checkers nightclub in Sydney, Australia.
