An “apology from Nehammer to Kickl is due” because “a red line was clearly crossed,” said Tyrol’s FPÖ leader Markus Abwerzger. What the ÖVP chairman did was “unique in its dimension” and “not worthy of a Federal Chancellor”.
“Nehammer apparently suffers from verbal incontinence in this regard,” the Tyrolean FPÖ chairman made a sharp attack on the ÖVP federal party chairman and chancellor. This accuses Kickl of having a “clear ideology” and thus trivializes “the darkest time in our history.” He suspects that Nehammer simply does not understand the “dimension of the terminology of what is right-wing extremist,” explained Abwerzger.
“No cooperation”
If Nehammer does not apologize, there might be no possible coalition cooperation with him if the worst comes to the worst, said the Tyrolean FPÖ chairman. In view of disastrous poll numbers and “excessive nervousness,” the ÖVP boss is apparently “going all in,” said Abwerzger. Because one thing is clear: If the current ÖVP poll numbers are even remotely reflected in the National Council election results, Nehammer will be “history” immediately following the National Council election. “Then other forces in the ÖVP will come to power,” predicted Abwerzger.
In any case, apart from Nehammer and his colleagues, the FPÖ has “good channels” into the ÖVP, for example “in the area of economics”. These forces would have no problem entering into a coalition as a junior partner with the Kickl-FPÖ.
