Abu Dhabi.. UAE and Indonesian Presidents Discuss Strengthening Joint Cooperation

Abu Dhabi – UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo discussed enhancing joint cooperation on Wednesday, and witnessed the signing of a number of agreements between the two countries.

This came during a meeting between the two presidents at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, during a visit by the Indonesian president to the UAE that began on Tuesday evening, according to what was reported by the official Emirati news agency, WAM.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed “the path of development of strategic relations between the two countries (..) and various aspects of cooperation, especially economic, investment, renewable energy, food security, infrastructure, education, health, climate action, environment, and other fields.”

Bin Zayed explained that “signing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in 2022 constituted a qualitative turning point that contributed to expanding the horizons of economic cooperation and serving the joint development of both the UAE and Indonesia.”

He said: “When President Joko Widodo took office in Indonesia in 2014, the volume of non-oil trade exchange between the UAE and Indonesia was $2.7 billion, and last year it reached $4.4 billion, in addition to the completion of agreements for projects exceeding $21 billion in Indonesia during 2023.”

For his part, the Indonesian President expressed his pride in the “constructive” cooperation with the UAE over the past ten years, looking forward to continuing to consolidate relations between the two countries during the next stage, according to “WAM”.

The two presidents witnessed the signing of a number of memoranda of understanding and agreements between the UAE and Indonesia, aiming to develop areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Among the signed agreements are a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy, and a framework agreement on maritime patrol aircraft, according to the Emirates News Agency.
