“Abu Dhabi Quality” approves Abu Dhabi Children’s Nutrition Guidelines

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Committee held a meeting of its Standing Technical Committee in Abu Dhabi during the second quarter of 2024, attended by 37 members representing 25 government agencies.

The Standing Technical Committee met under the chairmanship of Brigadier General Jassim Al Harmoudi, First Vice-Chairman of the Standing Technical Committee, and adopted the Abu Dhabi Nutrition Guidelines for Young Children, developed by the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority in collaboration with: Abu Dhabi Ministry of Health, Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development, Abu Dhabi Ministry of Education, Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Authority, Abu Dhabi Public Health Center and United Arab Emirates University.

The guide aims to provide a comprehensive reference framework for relevant parties and food policy and program makers by incorporating the latest research on modern functional nutrition principles, food behaviours, eating disorders and the gastric microbiome.

This guideline provides a reference for a number of related projects implemented by relevant departments to ensure the health and safety of catering service customers.

The Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority stressed the importance of the guidelines in supporting efforts to reduce the risk of childhood obesity in the emirate, providing relevant authorities with a unified reference framework to ensure healthy food groups are delivered towards the target.

Brigadier General Jassim Al Harmoudi said: “The results of the work of the Permanent Technical Committee are in line with the Council’s efforts to achieve its vision to improve quality infrastructure and help the emirate of Abu Dhabi stand out globally. Working closely with the government and the private sector Partners work together to develop technical and professional standards in various fields and seek to ensure quality and compliance in all activities and industries.

Fatima Al-Malhi, Acting Director of the Special Projects Department of the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority, emphasized that the Authority is keen to work with various partners to develop policies and services to strengthen public health and proper nutrition for children in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. She emphasized The importance of the role of parents and society in raising awareness among children and all family members about the importance of healthy nutrition and developing healthy eating habits.
