Police instructed to follow the rules

Abu Dhabi Police said studies have shown that lowering the speed limit can help improve traffic safety. Motorists are requested to watch their speed and obey all traffic rules and regulations, the police said in a statement. The police also warned that motorists who violate the speed limit in these areas will be subject to action including fines. Police said speeding is a serious traffic offense that carries a fine of Dh300 to Dh3,000 depending on how fast the speed limit is exceeded.

Penalties for violators

At the same time, the Abu Dhabi Police announced that a speed limit of 120 kilometers per hour has been set on Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road. The police also stated that those who violate the speed limit on this road will be fined 400 dirhams. Abu Dhabi Police officials explained that the maximum speed on this main highway will be 140 km/h, and 120 km/h on lanes one and two from the left. Driving at low speed will also be considered a violation of the law. Slower vehicles will be allowed through the third lane where the minimum speed is not set. The police stressed that heavy vehicles, which have to use the last lane of the road, are not subject to the minimum speed rule.

The objective is to increase road safety

Major General Ahmed Saif bin Zaitoun Al Muhairi, Director of Central Operations Sector, asked drivers to follow traffic rules. The enforcement of minimum speed aims to increase road safety. He said it would force slower vehicles to use appropriate lanes. He reminded drivers to make sure there are no other vehicles behind and keep a safe distance from other vehicles before changing lanes.
