Abu Al-Fuqara says, “Decades ago, I decided to stand by the poor and seek to see a small smile on the faces of many of the needy.”
Two hands that make little profit
He used to have a small popular stall, but he recently lost it.
On his bicycle, he travels in search of worn-out pieces of cloth to buy and then sell at a profit not exceeding one dollar for each large bag.
Journalist Ghassan Rifi says that the father of the poor “used to sell clothes at the cheapest prices, and as he made a small profit, he would provide the clothes for free and deduct from his profits as a percentage of aid to the poor and needy.”
“No one feels poverty except those who experience it”… a saying repeated by Nidal, and this phenomenon may be explained in a country that derives its continuity on the social solidarity shown by the Lebanese people towards each other.
In the regions of northern Lebanon, poverty is expanding and expanding, and in parallel, the role of official institutions is declining and their presence is diminishing, with the presence of initiatives such as those undertaken by Abu “the poor”, who is keen on perpetuating them with the available means and capabilities.
