A Canalys released today his latest research on the global tablet marketreferring to the second quarter of 2023. Despite having recorded yet another drop in sales, this time by 11% (against 18% in the previous period), the sector continues to have Apple as the absolute leader.

According to the firm, during the last quarter, 31 million tablets were delivered around the world — the lowest number since the first quarter of 2020. Apple, even so, managed to record a positive number (+2%) in the year-on-year comparison, having sent around 12.3 million iPads in the period.

Those numbers gave Apple a slice of the comfortable market. 39,8%against just 18,8% of its main rival, the Samsungwhich ended the quarter with around 6 million tablets sold (-13.6%). A Amazonin turn, appears in third place with approximately 2.2 million devices shipped it is a market share of 6,9% (-33,4%).

the chinese Lenovo comes just behind the American giant, with about 2.1 million tablets sold in the second quarter of this year and a market share of 6,7% (-39,1%). Your compatriot Huawei appears in the last position, with approx. 1.6 million devices sold and a slice of 5.2% of the market (-2.8%). The rest of the sector corresponds to 20.8% of sales (-10.6%).

According to Himani Mukka, research manager at Canalys, despite these consecutive declines, the sector remains more stable than smartphones and computers, even after the pandemic.

With the PC and smartphone markets also under threat, manufacturers that sell tablets have an additional tool to help target bundles of opportunities in the consumer, commercial and education sectors.

Also according to Mukka, the market should witness a new boost in demand for devices in the second half of the year, with vendors “continuing to launch new products, adopting aggressive market entry strategies and boosting promotional activity”.
