“Absence breaks my heart.” Anas Jaber withdraws from the Doha and Dubai tournaments

Tunisian Anas Jaber, ranked third in the world, announced today, Wednesday, the decision to withdraw from two WTA tournaments in Doha and Dubai this month, to undergo minor surgery.

“Because of my health condition, my medical team decided that I needed a minor surgery to help me return to the stadiums and perform well,” the 28-year-old added on Instagram.

The Tunisian player, who finished runner-up at Wimbledon and the US Open last year, did not mention any details regarding the surgery or its cause.

“I will have to miss two tournaments in Doha and Dubai, and this breaks my heart,” she said.

“I would like to express my condolences to all the fans in the Middle East who waited to meet me there. I promise to come back stronger and healthier.”

The Qatar Open will be held from February 13-18, while the Dubai Championship will be held the following week.

Anas left the second round of the Australian Open last month following losing 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 to former French Open runner-up Marketa Vondrousova and cried following leaving the court.
