– Fast Adamek is a winning Adamek – the “Góral z Gilowice” kept telling us when we met him a few days before the gala in Gliwice. He assured that he still drew a lot of energy from what he was doing, and everyone around him admitted that he was in very good shape. Besides, he came to Poland for the training camp almost 8 weeks before the fight.

Khalidov’s dreams and challenges

This fight was a dream come true and a search for new challenges, especially for Mamed Khalidov. He abandoned the sport he had been practicing since childhood and replaced MMA with boxing. All this to test himself once morest the master of this discipline, a Polish boxing legend. It wasn’t an amazing move. Boxing expert Andrzej Kostyra praised the Chechen with a Polish passport.

– Mamed has an incredibly strong punch and good technique. I had already told him once, looking at his right rectus or sacrum, that he should prove himself in boxing – Kostyra recalled. On the other hand, Adamek was a mystery. He fought his last fight in 2018, he is already 47 years old. That’s probably why the fight at KSW was contracted for only 6 rounds. To some extent, this worked to both the advantage and disadvantage of “Góral z Gilowice”. On the one hand, 18 minutes of a fight is not much, on the other hand, fans remember well that Adamek in his fights usually got going following the sixth or seventh round. According to the boxing champion’s wishes, the fight was planned in large boxing gloves, not thin MMA gloves. Adamek repeatedly emphasized that it was safer for him. The entire fight was programmed according to his rules, and the only novelty was the cage. Perhaps Adamek had in the back of his mind what had happened a few months ago in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where the favored WBC world heavyweight boxing champion was struggling with Francis Ngannou, who was the UFC heavyweight champion. The MMA fighter performed brilliantly and lost, but by a split decision of the judges. The world of combat sports was surprised by this duel.

Khalidov with an attack

The fight between Adamek and Khalidov was also even from the beginning. Khalidov turned out to be a difficult, because he was a specific opponent who moved in an unconventional way. Even next to Adamek, the Polish MMA legend looked like a dangerous fighter. Mamed was looking for a jumping fight, he tried to stay out of Adamek’s reach, it seemed as if he wanted to fly to his opponent or even hit a jumping shot. He changed position often. In the first round, the men were clearly testing themselves, but Adamek received at least one strong punch from Khalidov.

In the second round something unexpected happened. Mamed probably forgot what formula he was participating in, because when he was in the clinch, he instinctively grabbed Adamek’s legs and knocked him down. For this he received a warning from the referee and a point was deducted. The Chechen apologized and suggested it was instinctive.

In the third round, Adamek was a bit out of breath. He seemed even slower. Especially since Khalidov accelerated towards the end of the round. He got to Adamek with a few punches. When the men were going for a break, something unexpected happened. Khalidov grimaced with pain. And he gritted his teeth. He made it clear that he would not be able to continue the fight and that something was wrong with his right hand. After removing his gloves, his swollen hand was visible.
