About 15 women are “political prisoners” in Venezuela, according to opposition

Caracas, March 12 (EFE) .- The former Venezuelan opposition deputy Adriana Pichardo denounced this Saturday that in Venezuela around 15 women are “political prisoners” who are kept prisoner and are victims of the violation of their human rights and their due process of law.

Pichardo indicated, according to a press release from the anti-Chavistas. that of the total number of “political prisoners” “around 15 of them are women. The opponent added that these women have been “tortured and” abused” since their arrest.

He assured that the families of these people are also victims of violation of their fundamental guarantees and that the group led by Juan Guaidó will continue the fight for their release.

In its most recent report, published on March 7 on its Twitter account, the Venezuelan NGO Foro Penal indicated that in the Caribbean country there are exactly 241 people deprived of liberty whom they consider “political prisoners”, of which 227 are men and 14 women.

Of the total of 241 “political prisoners”, 110 are civilians and 131 are military officials. Meanwhile, when divided by age, 240 are adults and one of them is a teenager.

On March 1, this NGO participated in an act in Madrid called “Human rights in Venezuela: chronicle of cruel treatment of women”, in which they denounced that the number of “political prisoners” has not changed in recent years. since when the Government feels “pressured”, it releases several detainees while detaining others.

At the meeting they presented the cases of 13 women whose criminal proceedings, in many cases, have not been elucidated.
