About 100 pediatric athletes for the Special Olympics received medical checks

Asuncion, IP Agency.- A group of doctors from the “Niños de Acosta Ñu” general pediatric hospital performed 100 physical evaluations on children from the “Young Athletes” program, who will face different challenges in the Special Olympics to be held next October.

In just one day, the doctors at Acosta Ñu were in charge of organizing the care for the children who must comply with all the medical checks and evaluations, in accordance with the requirements of the organization of the Special Olympics event.

During the evaluations, the children were surprised by Tami, the official mascot of the IV Latin American Special Olympics Games. Tami spent time with them in the waiting room and in the consulting rooms, making the work of the health professionals much more relaxed.

They took into account the physical effort required by the different modalities and, with the collaboration of parents and/or legal guardians, filled out a form with the necessary data to approve the entry of the competitions.

The pediatric hospital’s neurologist, Néstor Sánchez, said that they treated children from 2 to 8 years old. To this end, he had the collaboration of third-year pediatric residents, nursing staff from the outpatient clinic, and the neurology admissions team.
