An attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs made from narcotic substances carefully hidden in a container on a ship was foiled.

This came after the National Security elements at the Tangier Med Port were able, on the evening of Thursday, August 8, to thwart an attempt to illegally smuggle medicines made from narcotic substances subject to international control.

The surveillance operations carried out by police officers on a sea transport container, which was on board a ship coming from an Asian country and heading to a country in West Africa, enabled the seizure of large quantities of medicine manufactured from narcotic substances subject to international control.
The seized shipments amounted to 182,200 bottles of this medicine, the shipping data of which were tampered with and fraudulent statements were made about the nature of the goods being transported, claiming that it was related to spare parts for motorcycles and not to a medicine containing narcotic substances subject to international control.

The scientific and technical police elements also took samples of the seized materials, with the aim of referring them to the National Laboratory of the Scientific and Technical Police to subject them to the necessary expertise.

In parallel, the competent judicial police opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecution Office, to uncover those involved in the attempt to smuggle these materials illegally, and to monitor the routes and destinations of their smuggling, in coordination with the Interpol offices in the countries concerned with the route of the sea voyage that was carrying the smuggled shipments.
