Abi Ahmed comments on the differences between Ethiopia and Sudan

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – On Tuesday, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abi Ahmed held talks with the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council in Sudan, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on the sidelines of the IGAD summit in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

According to the Ethiopian News Agency, the two leaders discussed issues related to the border, as well as regional and bilateral issues, and Ahmed said that “there are many things in common between the peoples of Ethiopia and Sudan, and they will work together to solve their problems peacefully.”

“The two countries should strengthen their relations by solving their problems through dialogue,” he added, adding that “work should be done to benefit the peoples of the two countries, which have a long history of mutual benefit.”

In Sudan, the Sudanese News Agency said that Al-Burhan and the Ethiopian Prime Minister affirmed “their keenness to resolve the contentious and outstanding issues between Sudan and Ethiopia through peaceful means and dialogue.”

In statements following the meeting, Al-Burhan said, “Disputes between African countries must be resolved within the framework of the African House and by amicable means.”

It is noteworthy that the Sudanese armed forces accused, last month, the Ethiopian army of executing 7 Sudanese soldiers, in addition to a Sudanese citizen “who were prisoners of it.”

The Sudanese armed forces said, in a statement, that “this treacherous position will not go unanswered, and it will respond to this cowardly behavior in what suits it.”
