The love of drawing is rooted in the early childhood of Abd al-Rahman Karim, following he started from the age of ten in his first attempts to express himself through the language of art. However, life circumstances prompted him later to change the course of his ambitions and dreams and go in another direction, following his father urged him to melt early in The realities of professional life, and self-reliance, found himself working full-time in his father’s lumber mill. Karim says: “My work in the factory, nor the boredom that befell me in my work environment, prevented me from achieving what I aspired to, so I started investing in the available machines and equipment and what I learned in the field of this industry, to start designing special works of art on wood, in which I relied on recycling leftovers.” Used wood, to create three-dimensional artistic works and designs, and special decorative pieces in which wood was mixed with a number of other minerals such as plastic and glass, and the output of building materials in general, such as iron.

And regarding the first artwork that Karim remembers, he said: “The first piece was an artwork dear to my heart that I gifted to my country, and it was a painting that embodies a map of Syria, and then, with the passage of time, my successive attempts in the field of design and creativity on wood were launched to be embraced by Dubai, following I was born In Britain, I moved to Syria and finally settled in the Emirates, which witnessed my real artistic launch.

Karim’s career in the field of design was not strewn with roses, but rather full of challenges, including the difficulty of imposing his name on the creative scene, given that he started in it in a modest manner, by designing a number of paintings and various works of art that did not come to light for many reasons, including the lack of focus of its owner on marketing it or He displayed it, except on his own page on the “Instagram” photo site. He says, “I was not preoccupied at first with marketing my work and presenting it to people, except for what I was able to display on my page. I was receiving wide positive opinions and interactions from my friends and followers on (Social Media), who showed interest in my work. At that time, I was actually involved in enriching and expanding this experience, and moving forward in making it a success through hard work and publishing my work on a larger scale in order to communicate it to people.

Karim adds that he then took the initiative to photograph his old and new works, and in the middle of last year he created a special artistic account called “Slabs”, to display and present them to those interested. Developing his artistic project and taking it to another level, by establishing a special gallery that will be an “artistic café” and a restaurant with innovative and new concepts in Dubai.

And regarding the sources of his formation, Karim said: “I am a self-made artist who relied on his innate talent and his own vision in the field of drawing, which I developed through discovery and my permanent visits to various art exhibitions that are held inside and outside the Emirates, as well as my participation in a number of training programs specialized in fine arts and design techniques with which I developed my skills.” And my knowledge in the field ».

The artist, Abd al-Rahman Karim, said regarding the sources of his artistic inspiration, that he has always been preoccupied with the outputs of the dazzling Andalusian architecture, stressing: “I have always carried the magic of the Alhambra Palace with its clear Islamic architecture, and the memories of beautiful Damascene houses, and I try to embody and mix them with the techniques of contemporary foreign design in my designs to make them speak of the origins.” open to renewal.
