Abdel Ghaffar unveils a new project for a mental health complex (outside Cairo)

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, affirmed President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s interest in the mental health file, revealing that a complex will soon be established outside Cairo for mental health that will serve as an integrated city for the treatment of those who are able and unable.

This came in his intervention before the inauguration ceremony of the “Fahim” Foundation for Psychological Support, in the presence of Dr. Nevin Al-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, and a number of ambassadors, representatives and a group of public figures.

Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar referred to the “President’s initiative to support mental health,” and to the priority the ministry attaches to this field, explaining that mental health is an important sector in the Ministry of Health and Population.

He revealed that the Ministry of Health has begun to have clinics to serve mental health in villages and governorates, warning at the same time of the shortage of doctors in the field of mental health.

And he added that the health file includes physical health, community health and mental health, stressing that the Ministry of Health is concerned with prevention, adding that studies in the world indicate that there are a large number of people suffering from mental illnesses, which is a very expensive disease, warning that any patient suffers from chronic diseases such as diabetes. Or pressure or otherwise can work, but the psychopath has a problem interacting with society.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar talked regarding the problems of the mental health file, referring especially to the “stigma” in society, that is, society’s view of the mental patient and its lack of conviction of the importance of mental health, stressing that the Ministry of Health deals with mental health diseases with great interest.

The Minister of Health also drew attention to the violence presented by Egyptian drama and films, and to the importance of the role of the media in this regard, criticizing violence, harassment and bullying that did not exist before in our society and among our youth.
