New York – On Thursday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas discussed with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer ways to achieve peace in the region and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
This came during their meeting on the sidelines of the meetings of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York, according to the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa.
The agency said that the two sides discussed “bilateral relations between the two countries, ways to develop and strengthen them, and work to achieve peace and stability in the region, and the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate rights.”
The Palestinian President stressed “the importance of Britain’s role in mobilizing international efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, the immediate entry of aid, complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and stopping the escalation in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem.”
Abbas, the British Prime Minister, called for support for the international diplomatic movement to implement the two-state solution option, according to the agency.
He also stressed “the necessity of finding international mechanisms to implement the decision of the United Nations General Assembly based on the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice, in order to end the occupation, achieve the establishment of the Palestinian state, and hold an international peace conference.”
