Abbas begins visit to Saudi Arabia, meets with crown prince on Tuesday

Saudi Arabia – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, yesterday, Monday, during which he will meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The official Palestinian news agency said that President Abbas “arrived in Riyadh on Monday evening,” where he was received by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Riyadh.

She stated that “President Abbas is scheduled to meet on Tuesday with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman.”

The agency did not mention any other details about President Abbas’s agenda during his visit to Saudi Arabia, nor the duration of the visit.

The Palestinian president is accompanied on his visit to the kingdom by the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hussein al-Sheikh, the head of the General Intelligence Service, Major General Majed Faraj, the president’s advisor for diplomatic affairs, Majdi al-Khalidi, and the Palestinian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Basem al-Agha, according to the agency.

The Palestinian President’s visit comes amid a devastating Israeli war on the Gaza Strip that has been ongoing for the 11th consecutive month, and faltering ceasefire negotiations.

This is President Abbas’s second visit to Saudi Arabia during the war, as he previously visited Riyadh in late April, where he discussed developments in the Gaza Strip with the Saudi Crown Prince.
