Swiss-Swedish ABB reported in statement which incorporated new services into the ABB Care maintenance package specifically for the mining sector. The addition aims to allow customers in the segment to advance in the adoption of predictive and proactive maintenance strategies for the conservation of equipment and other assets existing on mining sites and favor “operational constancy”.

In the statement, ABB said it believes that the growing demand for minerals, especially those required by the energy transition, will encourage mining companies to seek predictive and proactive maintenance strategies, which allow them to increase the availability of their equipment and the productivity of extractions.

The text even cites a recent study by the company that evaluated the maintenance strategies of ore lifters known as hoists, which are quite prevalent in Latin American mining. The study concluded that mining companies with predictive and proactive approaches have up to 15% greater availability of their hoists compared to those that use reactive strategies to conserve this equipment.

With the reorganization of the service portfolio, ABB Care now has two subdivisions: ABB Care for Mine Automation and ABB Care for Hoisting. In both packages, customers can hire services on demand, depending on the needs of each of their extractions. All plans include remote support, contract-specified response times, annual inspections and maintenance hour bank.

ABB Care for Mine Automation now brings together services that cover everything from alarm management and cybersecurity, to equipment lifecycle management and the so-called asset performance ‘loop’. ABB Care for Hoisting has specific service plans for hoist systems, covering issues related to everything from the power train to the equipment brakes, which are used in the extraction of ore from great depths.

ABB has been providing automation systems for mining since 1975, having already implemented 1,200 systems, said Max Luedtke, global director of mining business, in the text. “We continue to develop technologies and expertise for the mining sector, with the aim of providing always better performance and services to our customers”, he concluded.
