Zurich (awp) – The energy and automation technology specialist ABB has acquired a minority stake in the American start-up Windesco. It develops analysis software to improve the performance and reliability of wind power installations.

The venture capital investment completes ABB’s wind portfolio, the Zurich group wrote in a statement on Wednesday. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

“ABB’s wind energy portfolio will be complemented by Windesco’s strong digital offering, creating the conditions for both companies to leverage their strong presence in the growing wind energy market,” said Chris Poynter, director of the traction systems unit within the ABB Motion division.

Since 2009, ABB has made investments of approximately $400 million through its venture capital arm, focusing on electrification, robotics, automation and drive technology.
