Aalborg took a step on the ice, but got up enough

On paper, Aalborg Pirates have risen in the DM quarter-final once morest Rødovre, following they surprisingly lost the first match of the series on their own ice.

On Tuesday evening, they followed up the weekend’s victory in the capital with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the Sparekassen Danmark Arena, and thus the Aalborgenses now lead the duel with 2-1 in matches.

However, it is still hard to believe that the Pirates’ current level is enough to go all the way to the gold. At least there is so much room for improvement in the game.

The home team started Tuesday’s match absolutely horribly and quickly fell behind 0-1. Since then, the Rødovre players were almost allowed to do what suited them, and in the following minutes the visitors burned two huge chances for an empty goal.

Instead of a shocking but not undeserved 3-0 lead to Rødovre, Aalborg Pirates equalized to 1-1 following barely 10 minutes. Julian Jakobsen profited from the fact that Jeppe Jul Korsgaard removed the goalkeeper’s view of the captain’s flat finish.

Despite the goal, there was still a long way between both tackles and precise passes from the Aalborgs in the remaining goalless part of the 1st period.

Pirates dominated to a greater extent in the 2nd period, but the shots were too often released when Rødovre’s goalkeeper had a clear view.

A good five minutes before the period break, however, the lead finally fell when Jeppe Jul Korsgaard used his backhand to send a loose return puck in to make it 2-1.

The 3rd period was the most one-sided in Tuesday’s performance, but Aalborg Pirates’ offensive play continued to lack form, and therefore they never managed to kill the game with the third score.

Instead, Rødovre came close to equalizing with five seconds left when a random puck sneaked right past goalkeeper George Sørensen. However, Aalborg Pirates and the 3079 spectators escaped with a scare.
