The ice hockey club Aalborg Pirates has found the man they believe can get the shot back on track, and the club has, according to themselves, chosen to take unconventional paths.
New eyes
The new director Martin Grønning knows very little about ice hockey. He takes office on 1 December and replaces Claus Holstein, who has temporarily held the post since Lars Laursen was fired earlier this year.
– Martin comes with a completely different background from the sports world and looks with new eyes at the possibilities in Aalborg Pirates, including our strong brand and the ability to gather and entertain people. We think something really good can come out of this, says board chairman Morten Fals in a press release.
Martin Grønning has been independent in the Aalborg nightlife for a number of years. He has run nightclubs, wine bars etc., just as years ago he was behind the launch of a number of franchise shops with yoghurt ice cream. In recent years, he has worked as a sales consultant for a nationwide importer of beer and beverages.
Expansion of ownership
Martin Grønning looks forward to playing a leading role in getting Aalborg Pirates back on the right financial course.
– I am used to thinking in terms of events and good customer experiences, and I will do my best to ensure that we accommodate and activate both sponsors, volunteers, fans and spectators with new offers and experiences, says Martin Grønning.
In addition to the appointment of the new director, the board of directors at Aalborg Pirates is working to strengthen the economy by expanding the ownership circle. The dream is, among other things, that greater economic freedom can make Aalborg an epicenter for talent development.
