A YouTuber loses his pilot’s license for deliberately crashing his plane

American YouTuber Trevor Jacob paid dearly for a viral video he made last fall, reports The Guardian.

On November 24, 2021, Trevor Jacob posted a video titled “I crashed my airplane”, in which he is seen extricating himself from his plane in mid-flight before it crashes.

The video was a huge success, attracting the attention of more than 2.5 million Internet users, but also that of the FAA, the Federal Aviation Administration.

The investigation revealed that the youtubeur seemed to have totally planned the crash of his plane. Several cameras had been installed on the aircraft, including one judiciously oriented towards the propeller. The pilot had also decided to wear his parachute even before the plane took off.

The FAA also pointed out that Trevor Jacob had not used the emergency frequency to report his troubles and that he jumped out of the aircraft without even trying to establish why the propeller had stopped working.

The youtuber also failed to look for a safe area to try to land.

The American agency therefore concluded that Mr. Jacob had lacked prudence, judgment and responsibility in jumping from the plane, simply to film the crash of his plane.

The FAA has therefore decided to revoke Trevor Jacob’s pilot’s license.

The latter maintains that the accident was involuntary and admits that he did not expect such a sanction.
