A young Molenbeekoise and a deputy from rural areas: Naji and Vaneeckhout elected at the helm of a Groen party in poor shape

After a campaign without a stir, the Flemish environmentalists now have a new duo of presidents.

They were favourites, and obviously rightly so. Flemish deputy Jeremie Vaneeckhout (37, Anzegem) and Nadia Naji (30, Molenbeek) were elected this Saturday as president of Groen and therefore succeed Meyrem Almaci. A victory in the first round, with 57% of the vote.

Facing them, two other duos of co-presidents (a first in the history of the party, inspired by French-speaking and German ecologists). The couple of potential challengers, formed by Flemish MP Elisabeth Meuleman and Brussels debutant Juan Benjumea-Moreno obtained 35%. The third duo of young people without a mandate and with minimal chances, Jenna Boeve and Jad Zeitouni meanwhile obtained 6%.
