Kozhikode: A youth who was taken into custody by the Vadakara police last night in a car accident case died. The deceased is Sajevan (42), a native of Kalleri. Relatives alleged that Sajeev was brutally beaten by the police. Autorickshaw drivers found Sajeev lying unconscious in the station premises and took him to Vadakara Cooperative Hospital.

There was a dispute regarding the car in which Sajjevan was traveling while crossing the signal and hit another car. Following this argument, the Vadakara police took Sajeev into custody last night. Sajeev collapsed while in police custody. At 2.30 in the morning, the autorickshaw drivers saw him lying unconscious in the station premises and called an ambulance and took him to the Vadakara Cooperative Hospital. He died within half an hour of reaching the hospital.

The autorickshaw drivers alleged that the police did not look at the activist who was lying unconscious in the police station compound for a long time. However, the police say that Sajeev did not die while in custody. The police said that he was released following questioning and following that he became confused. The relatives alleged that Sajjevan had told that he was feeling chest pain at the station, but the police did not listen to him and beat him up. Sajeev’s body was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Mortuary.
