A young man and his father arrested as they were about to commit “the biggest shooting in the history of Belgium”

With his own identity, the young man announces that he intends to commit, on Thursday, “the biggest shooting in the history of Belgium”: “At noon, I intend to commit a shooting with my Browning 1922 (a type of pistol, Ed.). I plan to shoot all schools, hospitals and police. I will kill everyone. Read this carefully: you are all my targets. Pipe bombs will also be planted in front of every school, hospital and police station. My father will also help me kill as many people as possible,” it read.

Quickly, the police go back to the source of this threatening message and realize that it is familiar to them. Last March, an e-mail from the same recipient had indeed been sent to three schools in Roeselare and to the AZ Delta hospital: “At 3.45 p.m., I will be at school with a weapon”, was it then marked in the email.

However, once arrested, the individual said he had not sent any e-mails and had referred to a group of hackers to which he had belonged several years ago: “It is possible that they are doing this to provoke me trouble, he said.

According to the prosecution, it would once more be the same modus operandi: “We deduce it, among other things, from the language used in the message but moreover, it is far from being judicious to send such an e-mail in its own name”, points out the spokesperson for the West Flanders prosecution, Kortrijk division, questioned by Het Laatste Nieuws.

“So we’re thinking of the hacker collective that operates internationally and has gone following celebrities in the past. The young man from Roeselare was part of this collective for a while, before resigning. Apparently, this subject is still sensitive among the other members and the e-mail from last night is probably only intended to get him in trouble. Examination of his computer equipment that we have seized will certainly reveal a lot,” concludes the spokesperson.
