A year following taking power following the sudden death of Idriss Deby Itno, the president of the transition, General Mahamat Idriss Deby took stock of a year of transition.
The head of the Chadian junta spoke of the “failures”, but also the positive “achievements” made by the Transitional Military Council (CMT) which he has been leading since April 20, 2021.
“Believing the predicted prognoses, the social tear for our nation and the institutional chaos for our country, the transition has resolutely continued its path for a year as best it might,” he said in his message to the nation on Tuesday April 19. .
“The occasional flaws detected at the border with the Central African Republic and the few weaknesses noted in the other borders of our country have been tactfully managed to eliminate any risk of insecurity on all of our borders”, acknowledged the President of transition from Chad.
In order to deal with this and correct these flaws, he recalled that a monthly defense and security meeting has been instituted to assess the general security situation in the country, anticipate risks and take appropriate measures in time.
He reassured the Chadians that the national dialogue with politico-military groups will be held on schedule, starting on May 10.
“As previously announced, the work of the inclusive national dialogue will begin on May 10, 2022 in N’Djamena. This is a crucial meeting not to be missed at the end of which our dear and beautiful country will acquire lasting institutions that meet the deep and legitimate aspirations of the sovereign Chadian people,” noted General Mahamat Mahamat.
He justified the seizure of power by the military, which would have made it possible to avoid an institutional vacuum, by the withdrawal of the president of the National Assembly from assuming the function of the supreme magistracy, for health reasons.
