A women-only tarot tournament with women’s cards hot off the press

The fact that women like to play tarocks at the Haudum in Helfenberg is nothing new, especially at the Raiffeisen Tarockcup. But there has never been a tournament reserved for women. On September 30th, however, the time has come for the first time: The ladies of creation meet at the Tarockwirt in Helfenberg.

Of course there are also small but subtle differences when playing cards. “Women play tarot differently than men. They play more cautiously and think more. Not all, but most of them,” says Peter Haudum, co-founder of the Tarock Cup and himself an experienced tarock brother. That’s not to say that women are taller than the men, as extremely cautious players are called. The ladies are simply less inclined to gamble; they tactic, analyze and can still play their cards correctly as ice cold. And yet only 1,200 of the approximately 8,000 registered Tarockcup players are female.

Tarot fever becomes chronic

That should change with the first women’s tournament on September 30th: “We’re hoping for many new players who can already play tarot, but perhaps have never had the desire to take part in a tournament. You really don’t have to be a professional to take part . It’s enough if you know the rules and have already played a few times,” invites Haudum. If you don’t know the card game yet, you can train a little.

Ladies cards hot off the press

Qualities such as good memory, strategic thinking and forward-looking tactics are required for this. But once Tarock fever has gripped you, it remains chronic. Incidentally, you can network when playing cards together – the master should know: “Especially in tournaments you play with different people every time. That makes it special somehow.” Of course, the women’s tournament is played with Piatnik’s own women’s cards, which were originally used around 1900 and have now been reissued. They have a smaller format than usual tarot cards and are printed with previously used figures.

A welcome champagne, snacks during breaks, a donation from women and 30 prizes await all participants. A small tarot exhibition with old cards and utensils from the Piatnik company and from Peter Haudum’s private collection rounds off the tournament. The net proceeds go to a charitable cause. More information is available from Gasthof Haudum on Tel. 07216/6248.
