A woman escapes an attempted murder in Saint-Hyacinthe

A woman in her forties suffered serious injuries following an attempted murder on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, in Saint-Hyacinthe, in Montérégie.

It was the children who reportedly alerted the police around 1 a.m. The bleeding victim was in an apartment on Avenue Saint-Dominique, near Rue Brébeuf.

The victim was stabbed in the head and abdomen by a man in his 50s. She was taken to hospital, where she is in critical condition.

The relationship between the victim and her attacker has not been established by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which has also not confirmed whether children were present during the attack.

Major crime investigators have been dispatched to the scene to try to determine the circumstances of this armed attack, according to SQ spokeswoman Catherine Bernard.

The scene was protected by a security perimeter for forensic identification technicians who will have to analyze it during the day.

The suspect, arrested on the spot, will be met by investigators on Wednesday and he might face charges of attempted murder in particular.
