A wolf and two Ukrainian bears in Belgium, in Oudsbergen

The two bears come from the Mena Zoo in the town of Chernihiv, near kyiv. They are a brother and a sister, both aged seven. “The bears are healthy, although they show signs of stereotypical behavior,” says Frederik Thoelen of the Nature Help Centre. “It’s often a sign of living in a cage that’s too small.”

The wolf, an adult male, was confiscated from private individuals and was in a Polish refuge. Due to lack of space, only the wolf can be quarantined at the Nature Help Center itself. The bears will be cared for by Bellewaerde Park for two months. After the quarantine period, the two animals will be brought to Oudsbergen, in the province of Limburg.

The team should arrive with the animals around midnight. Before that, the center also collected two lions and two caracals (cats) from the affected areas. (
