“I loved him since I was 18 years old, I challenged my family and married him, raised his children following he traveled outside Egypt to work, and I lived for more than 16 years on my own and alone waiting for him to return to settle in Egypt, and when he finally returned to me, the situation of our marriage began to deteriorate due to the change in my husband’s conditions and his resorting to several betrayals of me. Several times, I discovered at that time that I had cancer, so he refused to stand next to me and got married, and I lived fighting death for years on my own until God completed my recovery.” Words that came from one of the wives at the Family Court in Giza, while requesting a divorce from her husband, following a 42-year marriage.

And the 60-year-old wife continued her lawsuit before the Family Court: “I have been carrying the title of wife on paper only since his return to Egypt because my husband refused to divorce me, and I completed raising my children alone and their wife, and their father every turn sends money to spend on them without bothering to visit them, he marries and divorces his wives. More than the times he calls us, even the wedding of his son and daughter he did not attend, and when he fell ill and his last wife divorced him, who is 30 years younger than him, he remembered that he had a wife and a house and returned to us, but unfortunately I might not forgive what he did to me and found myself asking for a divorce from him and when he refused I came to ask dislocation”.

The wife indicated: “I never had a hard heart, but my husband’s behavior is what prompted me to refuse the idea of forgiving him for the cruelty that afflicted me with illness and caused my health to deteriorate for years.”

It is mentioned that the Personal Status Law stipulates that the alimony of the young shall be borne by his father if he has no money, and the maintenance of the young shall continue on their father until the girl marries or earns enough to support her, and until the son reaches 15 years of age and is able to earn, if he completes it is unable to earn. Because of a physical or mental ailment, or because of seeking knowledge that is suitable for his likes, and for his willingness, or because of the lack of access to this earning, his maintenance continues on his father.
