A week after Jumblatt’s suggestions: No comment

Jad Fayyad wrote in Al-Anbaa online newspaper:

Electricity and then electricity, the password that is almost the only one on the lips of the delegates as a basic entry point for reform, while the plans to get the sector out of collapse continue, but it remains ink on paper, while the country is sinking into more darkness, high production costs, and the suffering of all sectors without exception due to electricity cuts and the very high cost For generators or solar energy.

Unfortunately, the file is stagnating without any progress being made, at the level of the plan or at the level of electricity and gas extraction from Egypt and Jordan, despite the many promises made by Energy Minister Walid Fayyad.

However, in this context, the head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, had a number of urgent proposals, which varied between political and technical. Politically, he demanded that the Ministry of Energy be handed over to a guaranteed entity, while technically, he demanded the construction of one plant instead of burning the reserve, and the addition of production generators to the Zouk and Jiyeh plants. Despite the passage of a week since these suggestions, no comment was issued from those concerned, even at the level of follow-up.

Member of the Leadership Council in the Progressive Socialist Party, Mohamed Basbous, indicated that “the demand for a guaranteed entity to take over the ministry is due to the failure of the current team to carry out any promised reforms, and this is the reason for the World Bank’s reluctance to support the sector, and the promised additional hours of feeding by this team through invocation The energy was just an illusion.”

In an interview with “Al-Anbaa” online newspaper, he pointed out that “Lebanon needs one additional laboratory, but following the completion of reforms, the most important of which is the appointment of the regulatory body and the fight once morest technical and non-technical waste, instead of draining funds as is currently happening.”

As for the proposal to develop the existing factories, Basbous mentioned that this is certainly possible, and it saves the state preparing the place with the infrastructure, because it is located in the sites of the current factories. Infrastructure, without building the plant, and with this amount, 500 megawatts can be secured by developing one of the plants.”

Basbous concluded his speech, stressing the necessity of adopting radical solutions, and moving away from temporary solutions followed by the team holding the reins of the Ministry of Energy.
