The French Riviera continues to amaze us. This edge of Mediterranean has never ceased to exert its charm on artists, poets, crowned heads and tourists from all over the world. Because of Cannes at Saint TropezPassing by Montecarlo et Antibesall of them have found in this haven of beauty a unique magic and inspiration, as well as an art of living that has often made them extend their stay.
Villa La Vigie was one of the cradles of this Mediterranean magnetism. This residence, which has become one of the most famous in the South of Francein particular thanks to its position overlooking the Cap d’Antibes, has welcomed the most recognized personalities of their time at all times: Jean CocteauEstée Lauder, Mistinguett, Maurice Chevalier, Charlie Chaplin and Pablo Picasso. The Spanish painter, who represented the villa in several paintings, also left behind a particular myth in the legend of the place. During his stay in 1924, he turned the garage adjoining the villa into a workshop, and would have decorated the walls of the bedrooms and living rooms (or the garage according to other versions) with his drawings, before he was forced by the owners cover them with a coat of white.
Equipped with a magnificent swimming pool overflowing with a view of the bay of Cannes (the Lérins islands and the Massif de l’Estérel), as well as a private pier, this villa with extraordinary architecture is now for sale, for the modest sum of 27 million dollars (regarding 26 million euros), according to the announcement of the agency Knight Frank. The building dates from 1912. Located a few steps from the Belles Rives hotel, the famous Art Deco palace where Francis Scott Fitzgerald stayed, the residence is surrounded by gardens, walkways and terraces offering a breathtaking view of the seaside. It also has access to the sea with a private pier, a boathouse, an infinity pool and a pool house. The interiors have been designed with large bay windows, in order to offer multiple views of the sea. The house even has an over-equipped entertainment complex, the “tower lounge”, which directly overlooks the sea.
The announcement tells us that the house has eight bedrooms. The master suite has an en-suite bathroom with a bathtub, a private sitting room and walk-in closet, as well as an entertainment area. Each of these rooms offers a breathtaking view of the seaside. There is also a living room, a formal dining room, a games room and an office. Among other facilities, the residence has a cellar, staff quarters, a winter garden covered with tiles and a parking lot with five spaces. On the other hand, and to our greatest despair, there is no trace of Picasso’s frescoes…
