A US court’s ruling on a teenager sentenced to between 5 and 7 months in a juvenile probation prison who committed several crimes has sparked outrage in the country.
In addition to running into him last August, a mother and her baby and fleeing, it was found that the 17-year-old accused has a previous criminal record that he placed under surveillance.
He was also convicted of poisoning a girl following mixing a drink with her in 2019 at a high school, causing her to be hospitalized.
He also found in his record another charge in which he was convicted of assault by force that would have resulted in severe bodily injury. Despite this, the court sentenced him to detention in a juvenile prison for a few months.
Condemnation of the ruling!
Commenting on the verdict of running over, the plaintiff considered that it was less than detention in a military school, and a little more difficult than a summer camp, as they put it.
On the other hand, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon refused to charge the teenager with assault with a deadly weapon or attempted murder, Fox News reported.
Gascon also announced in a statement that the county police department agreed to the charges and sentencing, but later withdrew. He considered that, fortunately, the infant who was with his mother was not harmed following the run-over operation, while the mother suffered a tear in her elbow.
He described the ruling as an “appropriate decision”, considering that juvenile justice aims to “rehabilitate young people”, and thus the teenager will be held accountable for his actions and receive the services necessary to prevent him from committing future crimes.

As for the victim’s mother, she stressed that what happened to her is a nightmare that will haunt her forever.
She also condemned the verdict and was surprised by the opinion of the public prosecutor, mocking him for ignoring the seriousness of what happened to her, as she put it.

And she revealed in a statement, that she believed at the moment of the crime that she was living with her son in the last moments, in reference to the severity of what she went through.
It is noteworthy that the incident, which occurred in the summer of last year (2021), sparked widespread anger following a video of a car driven by a teenager ran over a woman and her infant on a narrow road.
The clip also showed how the mother repeatedly tried to avoid the car, but the accused insisted on doing so and fled.
