They were missing for six days until Colombian officials found them.
A family of Venezuelan migrants heading towards the US border suffered almost a week adrift between the waters of Colombia and Nicaragua, without anyone having any indication of their sighting.
The Colombian authorities rescued them and counted two minors, who belonged to the family group of five more people.
The migrants were reported missing on the night of August 8. Just on that date they took a boat from the island of San Andrés, in Colombia, to the coast of Nicaragua.
But during the journey they suffered a mishap that caused the definitive stoppage of the boat. The causes are unknown.
Yraida Álvarez, her husband Miguel Oliveros, the daughter and her partner Michell Oliveros and Kristian Rodríguez were traveling on the boat.
The couple’s children, 9 and 6 years old, were also mobilized. The last crew member is Manuel Medina, who is a cousin of the family.
The family left Venezuela bound for the United States.
A close friend of those affected told the El Diario website that the seven crew members were rescued by Colombian officials. However, since his appearance, he did not have much contact with them.
The family hopes to receive more details regarding what happened on the trip.
The Colombian authorities sent their relatives photographs of the documentation and the passport of each member as a “certificate of life”.
In addition, the relative said that other Venezuelans and two or three people from the Dominican Republic were also traveling along with their relatives.
