a vehicle travels 25 kilometers with its driver, a 41-year-old man, unconscious at the wheel

This Sunday morning, a car traveled 25 kilometers on the E314 between Genk and Halen while its driver was unconscious, we learned from the media in the north of the country on Monday.

Alerted by other astonished motorists, the police tried to slow him down and put themselves right in front of the Renault Clio and braked. They hoped that the technologies that kept the vehicle going straight – cruise control and Lane Assist – would put the brakes on the car.

The cruise control allows the vehicle to maintain a constant speed and the Lane Assist allows it to stay in the middle of the lane of traffic and, sometimes, to brake when another vehicle is approaching.

Eventually, the vehicle veered off the road at Halen and crashed into the guardrail. The driver, a 41-year-old man, was unconscious when he was pulled from the vehicle. He was taken to hospital.
