The driver of the van who hit a terrace on rue Saint-Michel on Friday in Brussels was presented to the investigating judge for attempted murder this Saturday morning. At the end of the meeting, he was placed under an arrest warrant by the investigating judge, indicates the Brussels prosecutor’s office. The man is charged with attempted murder and has been taken into custody.
The prosecution does not wish to provide further information on the ongoing investigation.
The facts had taken place Friday in the middle of the day. Shortly before 1:00 p.m., a white van drove at high speed towards two terraces located rue Saint-Michel, a road perpendicular to rue Neuve. The driver had been arrested in the followingnoon, in Antwerp, and his home in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode searched. Six people were slightly injured.
If the prosecution did not want to give more details regarding the suspect, La Libre reported that it would be MG, a 28-year-old man of Belgian nationality and born in Turkey, originally from Saint-Josse. Friday still several tracks were considered by the prosecution, it would seem that the terrorist track is the least privileged.
