The traveler shared his first emotions and impressions with journalists waiting for him in Miami.
“Okay, I feel good. Tired, exhausted, but that’s how it always is. You recover and move on. Everything is fine”, – TV3 for television said A. Valujavičius.
In Miami, relatives and fans, dressed in flags and national attributes, were waiting for him for several hours, whose shouts the traveler said he heard several miles away.
“In the last miles, it was fun to hear and strange at the same time,” A. Valujavičius did not hide.
When the journalist asked what he learned, A. Valujavičius said that the trip did not drastically change him, maybe he only “became calmer”.
We remind you that A. Valujavičius achieved his historic finish in Miami on Tuesday, April 25, a little following 22:00. Lithuanian time.
The returning A. Valujavičius was greeted by fans and relatives holding a flag with the inscription “Aurimai, success in the Atlantic!” With this same flag, wishing for success, the family of A. Valujavičius went on a historic trip across the Atlantic in December.
92-year-old Vytautas arrived to greet the traveler 4 days ago and was patiently waiting for him. He came to the meeting dressed in a blue cap and tie, on which there are badges with the Lithuanian flag and a badge.
Among the waiting Lithuanians, it was possible to meet more sports enthusiasts – the Lithuanian rowers Domantas Maročka and Amedas Kelmelis, studying at the Florida Institute of Technology, did not miss the opportunity to congratulate A. Valujavičius.
The last days were not without challenges
A. Valujavičius’ last days in the Atlantic Ocean presented challenges. Although the traveler planned to finish on the weekend, his plans were disrupted by a natural disaster.
“Atlanta still wants me to be in the ocean. Therefore, the finish moves from this Sunday to Monday (I hope). I’ve been sleeping for just a few hours these past few days to make it to Sunday, but my efforts are fruitless.
We are trying to meet on Monday. I will specify the hour later,” the traveler announced on Saturday evening.
However, the strong Gulf Stream prevented it from reaching Miami on Monday.
“It’s daytime for you, it’s three in the morning for me. I haven’t stopped paddling since yesterday morning, so I’ve been paddling for 20 hours. There were two power naps (lit. naps, ed. past) of half an hour each. The rowing itself is regarding 19 hours and it is not the end yet”, A. Valujavičius shared on the Instagram social network on Tuesday morning Lithuanian time.
However, not only the natural element, but also the planning has become quite a challenge.
“Don’t wait guys. Technical problems with ports and Lithuanian communities. So now I’m sitting at anchor and waiting for a confirmed time and port to arrive. Tonight is a busy night. Nothing good,” A. Valujavičius reported late Monday evening.
On Tuesday, already at the finish line, A. Valujavičius was caught by a storm once more, which delayed the planned arrival by several hours.
