Monday, shortly before 7 p.m., the Gedinne-Beauraing road was the scene of a fatal accident near the place called Le Tilleul. A pedestrian was hit by a car.
The accident might not be avoided by the driver of the vehicle, a resident of the Marian city who knows the place particularly well. The pedestrian was a resident of Tunisian nationality of the Fedasil center in Pondrôme, located not far from the place of the accident.
In their search to establish the circumstances of the accident, the investigators will be able to rely on a film made by a camera on board a vehicle.
For eyewitnesses of the accident, the pedestrian had a very particular attitude: he moved on the roadway in a very careless way. It was encroaching heavily on the traffic lane.
Remember that the road is a very busy axis. Another element that must be pinpointed: darkness. If the way is illuminated by public lighting, many areas of darkness remain.
A pedestrian who does not signal himself in a very visible way therefore takes risks by moving following sunset. This risk is increased if the pedestrian does not walk while getting to safety.
For the driver of the car that mowed down the pedestrian, the shock might not be avoided.
Quickly on the spot, the rescuers might not do anything to save the unfortunate. To allow investigators to shed light on the circumstances of the accident, the road was closed to traffic. Mayor Marc Lejeune went to the scene of the accident.
